Is PayPal Available in Nepal? What Works Instead (2026)

By Yamraj Khadka · Updated · 2 min read

It's one of the most searched questions by Nepali freelancers, and one of the most confusing, because you'll find old posts, rumors and people selling "PayPal accounts" in Facebook groups.

Here's the clear answer, and what to do instead.

The short answer

No. As of October 2026, freelancers living in Nepal can't receive payments into a Nepali PayPal account or withdraw PayPal money to a Nepali bank account. There's no official PayPal service for receiving money in Nepal, and no announced launch date.

If a client wants to pay you by PayPal, you'll need to offer a different method.

Why you see conflicting information

  • Old articles and videos describe situations that no longer apply, or never did.
  • Rumors about PayPal "coming to Nepal soon" have circulated for years.
  • People selling accounts have every reason to claim it works.

When in doubt, check PayPal's official list of supported countries on its own website.

Don't use PayPal workarounds

You may see offers like "verified PayPal accounts for sale" or "receive PayPal through my account for a small fee". Avoid them:

  • The account isn't yours. The owner, or PayPal, can freeze the money at any time, and you can't do anything about it.
  • It breaks PayPal's rules. Accounts used this way get limited or closed, often with the money inside.
  • It can break Nepal's foreign exchange rules, because the money doesn't come in through an approved channel.
  • Many of these offers are scams designed to take your money or your work.

What works instead

  1. Payoneer: the most common choice. Receive money from Fiverr, Upwork and direct clients, then withdraw to your Nepali bank in rupees. See our Payoneer guide for Nepal.
  2. Bank transfer: direct clients can send money to your Nepali bank account by international transfer.
  3. Platform withdrawals: marketplaces like Fiverr pay out through Payoneer. See how to withdraw Fiverr earnings in Nepal.

What to tell a client who wants to pay by PayPal

Clients usually just want an easy way to pay. Offer alternatives politely and clearly:

Hi [name],

Thanks for confirming the project! PayPal isn't available for receiving payments in Nepal, where I'm based, so I can't accept it. Here are two easy ways to pay me instead:

1. Payoneer: I'll send you a payment request by email, and you can pay by card or bank transfer.
2. Bank transfer: I'll send my bank details with the invoice.

Whichever is easier for you works for me. I'll send the invoice as soon as you choose.

Thanks,
[Your name]

Will PayPal come to Nepal?

Nobody can say for sure. Launching a service like PayPal requires approvals and agreements that haven't been announced. Until PayPal officially lists Nepal as a supported country for receiving money, plan your freelancing around Payoneer and bank transfers. They work well today.
