Payoneer in Nepal: How to Open, Verify and Withdraw to a Nepali Bank

By Yamraj Khadka · Updated · 3 min read

Payoneer is the main way Nepali freelancers receive money from Fiverr, Upwork and clients abroad. It's free to sign up, it works with the big marketplaces, and you can withdraw your money to a Nepali bank account in rupees.

This guide explains how to set it up correctly the first time, because mistakes during sign-up are the most common reason for delays.

Details change. Payoneer's sign-up steps, fees and features can differ by country and change over time. Check Payoneer's website and your account for the current details.

What you'll need

  • to be 18 or older
  • your citizenship certificate or passport
  • a Nepali bank account in exactly the same name as your ID
  • an email address and mobile number you control
  • your address, written the same way everywhere
  • sometimes, proof of your freelance work, such as a link to your Fiverr or Upwork profile

How to sign up

  1. Go to payoneer.com and choose to sign up as a freelancer. Fiverr and Upwork also have Payoneer sign-up links in their payment settings, which connect the accounts for you.
  2. Enter your name exactly as it appears on your citizenship certificate or passport, in English, including your middle name if it's on the document.
  3. Enter your date of birth, contact details and address.
  4. Create a strong, unique password and set up two-factor authentication.
  5. Add your Nepali bank account details for withdrawals.
  6. Submit the application and upload clear photos of your ID if asked.

You'll receive an email when your account is approved. Approval can take a few days, and sometimes longer if Payoneer needs more documents.

Tips to avoid rejection or delays

  • Match your documents exactly. Name, date of birth and address should match your ID and bank account.
  • Use clear photos. All four corners of the document should be visible, with no glare.
  • Don't use a VPN or someone else's device or internet connection to apply.
  • Never open a second account if the first is pending or rejected. Contact support instead.
  • Use your own details only. Never apply with a friend's or relative's documents.

Receiving money

  • From marketplaces: connect Payoneer in Fiverr's or Upwork's payment settings, then withdraw from the platform to Payoneer. See how to withdraw Fiverr earnings in Nepal.
  • From direct clients: you can request a payment through Payoneer, or share receiving account details if they're available on your account. Send the client an invoice too. The free invoice generator makes one in minutes.

Withdrawing to your Nepali bank

  1. In Payoneer, open Withdraw and choose To bank account.
  2. Select your Nepali bank account and enter the amount.
  3. Check the exchange rate and any fee shown, then confirm.

The money usually reaches your bank in rupees within a few business days. Payoneer is mainly a way to receive money in Nepal. You can't add money to it from a Nepali bank.

Fees to check

Payoneer's fees depend on how you receive and withdraw money. Before you start, check the current fee page in your account for:

  • fees for receiving certain kinds of payments
  • the currency conversion rate when you withdraw in rupees
  • any withdrawal fee
  • any annual account fee for accounts with little activity

To see what you'll really receive, enter these numbers in the fee calculator and choose NPR.

What about the Payoneer card?

Payoneer's card isn't available in every country. Check in your account whether it's offered in Nepal. Most Nepali freelancers simply withdraw to their bank account.

Keep your account safe

  • Turn on two-factor authentication.
  • Watch out for fake "Payoneer" emails and messages asking you to log in or "verify" your account. Always type payoneer.com yourself instead of clicking links.
  • Never share your login, verification codes or account with anyone.
  • Never "rent" your account to someone else, even for a fee.
